NEW AAQ MARKETING INITIATIVE

A “Market Page” for the AAQ website (www.aaq.com.au) will help members sell their “orphan fish” at higher prices. The Market Page is an initiative by AAQ President, Bruce Sambell. He said the page would be promoted to potential customers in Queensland restaurants, hotels, caterers, and other food service buyers.

This web page may help overcome the problem of AAQ members selling their fish on the auction floor of the Sydney Fish Market risking a low return.

The Sydney fish market was fine, but all too often AAQ members with fish for sale over and above their regular customer commitments can find it an “orphan market” that did not provide the best returns.

The AAQ’s Market Page would be updated on a daily basis if necessary, as sales were made.  It would also allow AAQ members to be price makers rather than price takers”, he said. “The service free to full members of the AAQ. It would be restricted to well finished (purged) fish that were a credit to Queensland aquaculture.

“The Market Page will make it easier for restaurants and others wanting fish to connect with the suppliers of fish” he said.
